Operational Buyer

About the role

The Operational Buyer ensures all indirect third‑party spend follows the appropriate buying channels and internal review procedures, maximizing value for Lonza. The role works closely with Accounts Payable and the P2P enablement team to resolve invoice and GRIR queries and to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate purchase requisitions for indirect products/services and CAPEX for multiple sites.
• Manage competitive bid processes and execute RFx market interventions according to policy.
• Assign contracts and purchase orders to preferred suppliers where possible.
• Handle non‑conformance, rejections, and returns with suppliers, QA and QC.
• Monitor supplier performance and raise issues with strategic buyers or category managers.
• Promote use of the e‑catalogue (Ariba) and other approved buying channels.
• Respond to AP enquiries and cooperate with AP and the P2P enablement team to resolve invoice and GRIR queries.
• Uphold data integrity principles and proactively improve related processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement or a related function.
• Experience with indirect spend and/or CAPEX purchasing.
• Working knowledge of SAP and e‑procurement tools such as Ariba.
• Understanding of the purchase‑to‑pay (P2P) process.
• Strong negotiation, communication and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across several sites.
