Research Assistant – Health, Culture & Society Project

About the role

The Centre for Health, Culture, and Society at NTU is launching a three‑month research project on pharmacists' experiences with patient complaints. We seek a Research Assistant to support interview transcription, preliminary analysis, and preparation of research outputs.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate interview scheduling and manage consent procedures in line with IRB requirements.
• Generate, verify, anonymise, and archive transcripts for up to 20 audio‑recorded interviews.
• Prepare interview summaries and analytic memos highlighting narrative patterns.
• Assist the principal investigator with initial qualitative coding using NVivo or similar tools.
• Support field‑note preparation from ethnographic observations.
• Conduct literature‑review tasks and help draft reports, conference papers, and journal articles.
• Maintain organised, secure records of all research data and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in humanities, social sciences, or a health‑related discipline; a Master's degree is an advantage.
• Strong interest in qualitative research and familiarity with transcription processes.
• Experience with qualitative data analysis or willingness to learn under supervision.
• Excellent written communication and meticulous organisational skills.
• Ability to handle confidential data with discretion and an understanding of research ethics.
• Interest in medical humanities, narrative medicine, or the sociology of healthcare.

Required skills

• NVivo (or comparable qualitative analysis software).
