Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Staff Level)

About the role

The Office of the Chief Technology Officer at KLA is seeking a senior‑level Mechanical Design Engineer to create mechanical structures, modules, and assemblies for advanced laser and optics systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. The role spans the full product development cycle, from concept and feasibility studies through prototype build, testing and hand‑off to product engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive mechanical design requirements for high‑precision laser and optics hardware.
• Conduct feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed design, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and produce detailed drawings.
• Perform material properties, structural, thermal and fluid‑flow analyses.
• Lead design reviews throughout the development process.
• Assemble prototypes, conduct testing, troubleshoot issues, and iterate designs.
• Collaborate closely with research scientists, optics engineers, laser system engineers and end‑users.
• Coordinate with suppliers to ensure critical design specifications are met.
• Conduct innovative research to enable new precision‑engineering technologies.

Required profile

• Senior/Staff level mechanical engineering experience, preferably in optics or laser‑based equipment.
• Proven ability to lead full product development cycles from concept to prototype.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Experience with semiconductor or high‑precision manufacturing environments is a plus.
