Senior Mechanical Engineer – Healthcare Innovation Lab

About the role

We are seeking a senior mechanical engineer to design and prototype physical products that enhance patient care and improve the working experience of healthcare staff. You will work within the Centre for Healthcare Innovation Living Lab (CHILL) collaborating with clinicians from Singapore’s major hospitals and polyclinics.

Key responsibilities

• Develop low‑ to mid‑fidelity prototypes using CAD tools (Rhinoceros 3D, Fusion 360) and create supporting drawings and documentation.
• Explore materials, components and mechanisms, and build prototypes through 3D printing, machining and basic fabrication.
• Define colour, material and finish specifications and incorporate design‑for‑manufacturing considerations for future scalability.
• Ensure design activities comply with medical device standards, regulatory requirements and design control processes.
• Maintain the CHILL facilities, monitor workspace readiness, manage equipment, consumables and inventory.
• Coordinate with external vendors, prepare technical specifications, and track design changes and timelines.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving mindset with a passion for improving healthcare experiences through product design.
• Ability to work closely with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Rhinoceros 3D and Fusion 360 for CAD modeling.
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator for documentation.
• Hands‑on skills in rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D printing and machining.
• Knowledge of design‑for‑manufacturing principles and medical device standards.
• Basic inventory and vendor management capabilities.
