3D Model, Scene and Avatar Generation Algorithm Research Intern

About the role

Lightspeed Studios, part of Tencent, is a game development business unit focused on next-generation experiences across genres and devices. Its Lightspeed Tech Center is an R&D department under Lightspeed Studios that develops PUBG Mobile and other games, and leads research and technical services for engines, audio, QA, AI and next-generation game technology. This internship supports the development of 3D model, scene and avatar generative AI systems.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development of 3D model, scene and avatar generative AI systems, gaining hands-on experience in advanced geometry, texturing, character modeling and scene construction.
• Contribute to project discussions with ideas for improving model, scene and avatar generation.
• Collaborate with senior specialists to integrate 3D models, scenes and avatars into game environments.
• Participate in R&D tasks exploring 3D modeling, character/avatar generation and immersive scene construction.
• Help develop pipelines for full avatar creation, including face modeling, motion capture and rigging/animation.

Required profile

• PhD student in Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Mathematics, Game Design, Digital Arts or a related field.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, with a strong inclination for collaborative projects.
• Passion for game development and digital arts, and a creative, open-minded approach to experimental projects.
• Ability to intern for more than 6 months.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of 3D modeling, texturing, character modeling and scene construction.
• Preferred: publications in top computer vision and graphics venues (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, SIGGRAPH, NeurIPS, ICML, PAMI, IJCV, TOG, TVCG).
• Preferred: experience with 3D modeling, character/avatar or scene construction software, and prior work in avatar generation, motion capture, facial modeling or rigging/skinning.
