Academic Coach / Learning Support Assistant (AY25/26)

About the role

GESS, one of Singapore's leading international schools, offers a German section where students follow the German International Abitur or the IB Programme. Academic coaching is a key part of its learning support concept: the coach fills gaps in the learning process, builds self-confidence, promotes interaction and keeps the student focused in class. For the academic year 2025/26, the coach supports one student with learning challenges such as autism spectrum disorder, learning needs or motor skill impairments, and may also support students with learning needs in German. Support is provided inside or outside the classroom.

Key responsibilities

• Support general learning structures (understanding, completing and checking tasks)
• Support work behaviour (attention and concentration, motivation) and social behaviour, and emotional well-being
• Support in subjects such as German, English, mathematics and science under a teacher's guidance
• Support mobility, perception and language/communication when needed
• Accompany the learner on class trips, project weeks, bonding days and other school events
• Handle organisational tasks and provide materials
• Take part in meetings with teachers, learning support staff and parents when required

Required profile

• Fluent spoken and written German, to support German-speaking students
• Relevant university degree and/or experience in an educational setting
• Knowledge of and/or experience working with learners with barriers to learning
• Open-minded, flexible and team-oriented, eager to learn and implement best practices
