Area Project Manager - PMC, High Voltage Substation & Onshore Transmission Line, Indonesia

About the role

The Area Project Manager is the PMC's senior delivery leader for a defined portion of the Indonesia-Singapore renewable energy interconnector project. Acting as the Owner's independent representative, the APM ensures EPC contractors, suppliers and vendors deliver their scope safely, on schedule and within budget. The role covers contractor governance, project integration, commercial awareness, technical oversight, interface management and stakeholder leadership, with particular emphasis on managing large Chinese EPC contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day engagement with EPC/EPCI contractors and key suppliers, and monitor their compliance with contractual and project requirements.
• Review performance against approved schedules, milestones and deliverables, challenge productivity forecasts and recovery plans, and hold contractors accountable.
• Lead regular performance reviews with contractor management teams and escalate material performance concerns and risks to the Project Director.
• Ensure engineering quality, supply chain visibility, schedule integrity, independent progress verification and reporting assurance.
• Handle cross-functional interfaces, claims prevention, commercial risk management and dispute avoidance.
• For major equipment suppliers: manufacturing surveillance, FAT oversight, quality inspections, supplier audits, equipment release recommendations and delivery readiness assessments.
• Build working relationships with contractor leadership, validate reported progress independently, oversee remote engineering centres and fabrication facilities, and resolve commercial and claims issues early.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years' experience delivering major infrastructure, energy or industrial projects.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a Project Manager, Area Manager, Package Manager or equivalent leadership role.
• Proven experience delivering utility-scale energy or infrastructure projects and managing major contractors and complex supplier networks.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary, multi-location project teams.
• Location: Indonesia and/or Singapore, with regular travel to contractor offices, fabrication facilities, manufacturing sites and construction locations.

Preferred qualifications

• Utility-scale solar PV, BESS, high-voltage transmission and grid connection, GIS/AIS substations, subsea and underground cables, marine and offshore construction, and FIDIC contract experience.
• Managing large international EPC contractors and overseas engineering, fabrication and manufacturing activities.
• Projects in Southeast Asia, Indonesia and/or Singapore, and capital projects exceeding US$500 million.
