Associate/Assistant Professor – Malay Language (ALC)

About the role

The Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) division at the National Institute of Education seeks an Associate or Assistant Professor to strengthen its Malay language and culture programme. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community dedicated to teacher‑researcher excellence, interdisciplinary scholarship, and the promotion of Singapore’s mother‑tongue language education.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or collaborate on funded research projects and maintain a strong publication record.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising student research projects.
• Mentor undergraduate student‑teachers during their school teaching practice.
• Build and sustain connections with local and international professional communities.
• Undertake administrative duties as required, including committee service and mentorship of junior faculty.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Linguistics (or related field).
• Research interest in translation, bilingualism, first/second language acquisition, or teaching Malay as a mother‑tongue/second language.
• Extensive research experience in the above areas.
• Native or near‑native proficiency in oral and written Malay and English.
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Knowledge of the Singapore curriculum and education system.
• Degree or diploma in education is preferred.
• Evidence of research in emerging technologies such as AI‑powered adaptive learning is a plus.
