Business Controller

About the role

The Business Controller will act as a key finance partner for NovaNova Group, supporting the shipping business with financial planning, analysis, treasury, and governance. This senior position requires deep shipping industry knowledge and the ability to turn operational data into actionable financial insights.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and timely submission of monthly management reports, including flash, EBITDA, variance analysis and cash flow reporting.
• Drive the annual budgeting and forecasting process with a focus on voyage profitability and cash flow requirements.
• Prepare and consolidate materials for Board and Financial & Operational Review Meetings.
• Monitor voyage performance, analyse profitability drivers and variances.
• Manage daily cash positions across multiple currencies, coordinate FX transactions and treasury risk activities.
• Maintain banking relationships, support vessel and working capital financing, and monitor loan covenants.
• Ensure adherence to internal control requirements, monitor accounts receivable and drive timely collections.
• Oversee KYC procedures for charterers, ship owners and counterparties and liaise with legal and compliance teams.
• Drive continuous process improvement by simplifying workflows and strengthening controls.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline; CA, CPA or ACCA preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of finance experience, including FP&A, budgeting, forecasting and cost control.
• Direct experience with a ship owner, operator or charterer and strong knowledge of voyage accounting.
• Hands‑on experience with treasury functions, cash management, FX and vessel financing.
• Proven ability to partner with commercial, operations and senior management teams.

• Veson IMOS or equivalent voyage management system.
• ShipNet or comparable voyage management software.
