Client Onboarding Officer

About the role

The Client Onboarding Officer is part of the Client Onboarding Team within the COO Division of Julius Baer Singapore (BJBS). The role reviews and assesses AML/KYC risk for Standard and Medium Risk client relationships booked in BJBS, and escalates higher risk accounts to Compliance in line with internal policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve onboarding of new client relationships and accounts for individuals, domiciliary companies, legal entities, financial institutions, trusts, funds and external asset managers, ensuring compliance with bank policies and MAS 626 Notice and Guidelines
• Assess the adequacy of the source of wealth narrative and corroboration submitted by the front office, and the risk of opaque legal structures
• Check true matches for sanctions and other AML/CFT risks identified during name screening, and advise front employees and risk committees on AML/CFT risk
• Approve or reject new account opening applications for Standard and Medium Risk relationships, escalating higher risk cases to Compliance, and give input to Head Office and overseas offices (Hong Kong, Dubai, Thailand)
• Manage a team of 5-8 officers, support senior management in managing operational, regulatory and reputational risks, and conduct quarterly quality checks on approved accounts
• Handle first-level escalations and cooperate with MAS or law enforcement requests for information

Required profile

• At least 8 years' experience in KYC onboarding or AML, preferably in private banking
• Good understanding of the private banking and wealth management industry, and of MAS 626
• Prior people management experience preferred
• Excellent command of spoken and written English; other languages are an advantage

• Strong knowledge of MAS 626 Notice and Guidelines
• Experience preparing reports and strong Excel skills
