EAL Teacher

About the role

Brighton College (Singapore), part of Cognita, is looking for an experienced English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher with previous teaching experience in international education. The EAL teacher builds and maintains a successful EAL programme, supporting students from beginning to intermediate levels so they can access the curriculum in English, and co-teaches, co-plans, co-assesses and co-reflects with classroom teachers.

Key responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with students, their parents, co-teachers, teaching assistants and the wider school community
• Coordinating parent meetings to review students' progress
• Plan, prepare and deliver EAL classes and activities
• Use a range of teaching strategies, including co-planning, co-teaching, co-assessing and co-reflecting
• Use grouping strategies such as whole-class, small-group, partner and individual work, and differentiate instruction to meet student needs
• Maintain a well-managed, appropriately resourced teaching environment
• Promote the school's philosophy and policies, and take responsibility for the class during emergencies, supervising children at breaks and lunch

Required profile

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent
• Previous teaching experience in international education
• Additional qualifications or endorsements for working with English Language Learners from an accredited institution
• Verifiable training in functional behavioural assessment (FBA) and in writing Language Support Plans (LSP) and other intensive intervention approaches
