Emerging Markets Asia FX & Rates Strategist

About the role

Barclays is looking for an Emerging Markets (EM) Asia FX & Rates Strategist in its Asia FX & EM Macro Strategy Research team, based in Singapore. The role produces differentiated research and actionable trade ideas on EM Asia FX and rates for internal and external clients, and works closely with economists, other strategists and global Emerging Markets colleagues. The role is regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Key responsibilities

• Analyse market, sector, corporate and economic data to develop investment theses and produce research ranging from company or sector notes to long-dated thematic reports.
• Present research views to clients through face-to-face and virtual meetings, hosted events and written communications, and engage with Markets, Client Strategy and other stakeholders.
• Provide insights to internal clients and collaborate with Supervisory Analysts and Compliance so that research is delivered in a compliant manner.
• Contribute to policy development, advise on complex issues, and help design policies and controls to mitigate risk.
• Maintain and help build analytical tools, databases and quantitative models, and communicate views to clients and internal stakeholders within risk, legal and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in macro research, strategy or financial markets with a focus on Asian economies, currencies and rates.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Science or another quantitative discipline.
• Fluency in English; Mandarin fluency preferred.
• Legal right to work in Singapore; Barclays may require mandatory regulatory qualifications.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of macroeconomics, financial markets and emerging market dynamics across Asia.
• Solid analytical and quantitative skills, including central bank policy analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with attention to detail and collaboration across regional and global teams.
• Desired: Bloomberg, Haver or similar market data platforms; statistics, econometrics or quantitative modelling; Python, R, Excel VBA; prior research publications; progress toward a CFA.
