Engineer Team Lead, New Markets Singapore

About the role

Alpaca, a US-headquartered provider of agent-first brokerage infrastructure for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto and fixed income, is hiring an Engineer Team Lead in Singapore. The role guides engineers building brokerage and platform services for New Markets in the region, partners with global teams and represents engineering for Singapore stakeholders. It covers architecture, APIs, reliability, mentorship and regional recruitment support, with a focus on leading the Singapore team day to day.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and ship scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems (gRPC microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, vendor integrations) and advance the core platform for multi-region, multi-currency and regulatory contexts.
• Own API quality, performance and operational readiness for regional workloads.
• Lead, coach and develop engineers in Singapore, setting priorities, quality standards and career growth, and partner with recruiting on regional hiring and interviews.
• Improve monitoring, alerting and incident response, act as a senior escalation for incidents affecting regional stacks, and participate in on-call as appropriate.
• Work with Product, Compliance and local stakeholders on Singapore and regional requirements, collaborating across time zones with US and other regional teams.

Required profile

• Staff-level impact: architecture ownership, cross-team technical leadership and mentoring.
• People leadership experience: direct or matrix leadership of engineers (1:1s, performance, delivery).
• Financial services / fintech / brokerage exposure, including trading lifecycle, settlements and regulatory awareness.
• Excellent English communication and comfort with regional and global stakeholders.
• Nice to have: Singapore or APAC regulatory and market experience, microservices, Kubernetes, cloud (GCP/AWS), event-driven design, and an open-source or community presence.

Required skills

• Strong backend engineering (Go or equivalent) and distributed systems at scale.
• gRPC microservices and REST/gRPC APIs.
