Engineering Manager - AI-Native Email App

About the role

BJAK, the leading insurance platform in Southeast Asia, is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing engineering team behind products used by millions of users. The role suits a strong technical leader who can guide engineers, make sound architecture and engineering decisions and drive products from idea to production, while keeping the team focused on real customer and business outcomes. It is a remote position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineers across frontend, backend and full stack development.
• Own engineering delivery for major product areas, shipping quickly without compromising reliability and quality.
• Work with product, design, mobile, backend and AI teams to turn ambiguous product problems into clear technical execution.
• Drive architecture and engineering decisions across APIs, databases, integrations, infrastructure and customer-facing systems.
• Set standards for code quality, system design, testing, observability, security and production reliability.
• Develop engineers through feedback, coaching, performance management and clear expectations; improve processes, tooling and automation.
• Monitor systems, resolve incidents, find root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Build an engineering culture focused on ownership, speed, technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with experience shipping real production systems.
• Experience leading or managing engineers and owning engineering delivery.
• Strong technical depth across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, distributed systems or cloud infrastructure.
• Able to make sound technical trade-offs between speed, scalability and maintainability.
• Track record of taking products from idea through launch and production.
• Comfortable reviewing designs, challenging engineering decisions and debugging complex production issues.
• Strong people leadership, product sense and ability to work fast with ambiguity.
• Strong English communication; comfortable in a distributed, international team.

The role is not for managers who stay far from the technology, who need complete specifications before starting, or who measure success by meetings and tickets rather than shipped outcomes. The process is fast: online assessment or practical task, then a technical/interview round and a CEO/final round, with offers aimed within a week of starting interviews.
