Event Sales Director (Japanese speaking)

About the role

Our client, a leading global B2B events business, is expanding into Japan and needs a visionary leader to launch its events portfolio from the Singapore hub. This ground‑floor role will shape market entry, build partnerships and create a high‑performing sales team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a go‑to‑market strategy for Japan, identifying high‑value verticals and decision‑makers.
• Drive new business acquisition by securing contracts with top‑tier Japanese corporations, trade associations and government‑linked entities.
• Build and nurture relationships within the Japanese business community to foster long‑term partnerships.
• Recruit, mentor and manage an initial sales team, establishing KPIs and sales processes.
• Align local strategies with global stakeholders, adapting offerings to Japanese market expectations and regulations.
• Own the P&L for the Japan region, meeting and exceeding revenue and booking targets.
• Act as a strategic advisor to C‑suite clients, positioning the event portfolio as a growth solution.

Required profile

• Native or near‑native fluency in Japanese (Business Level JLPT N1/N2) and strong English communication.
• 8+ years of B2B sales experience, preferably in events, hospitality, MICE or professional services.
• Proven “hunter” mindset with ability to create processes and sell in a blue‑sky market.
• Demonstrated leadership experience building and motivating small sales teams.
• Deep cultural intelligence and understanding of Japanese business etiquette and negotiation styles.
• Established network of contacts within the Japanese corporate sector is highly desirable.
