Executive Director – Head of Risk & Controls, Operations (Global Markets)

About the role

This Executive Director position leads the Risk & Controls function for Global Markets Operations at a leading investment bank. Reporting to senior Operations leadership, you will shape a best‑in‑class 1.5 Line of Defense model and drive the integration of Middle Office functions into Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the strategic vision for Risk & Controls across Global Markets Operations.
• Champion a modern 1.5 Line of Defense framework, balancing operational efficiency with independent oversight.
• Oversee the integration of Middle Office functions, ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience.
• Enhance RCSA, KRI, issue‑management, and overall operational risk frameworks.
• Partner with Operations leaders to embed risk management into business strategy, transformation programmes, and technology initiatives.
• Serve as trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across Operations, Front Office, Risk Management, Compliance, and Internal Audit.
• Lead regulatory engagements, SOX initiatives, audit interactions, and remediation programmes.
• Build and develop a high‑performing, multi‑regional risk and controls team.

Required profile

• 12+ years of experience in Investment Banking Operations, Middle Office, Operational Risk, Business Risk, Controls, Governance, or COO functions.
• Deep knowledge of Global Markets products and post‑trade operations, including trade lifecycle, settlements, reconciliations, client onboarding, and regulatory reporting.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale operational transformation or control‑enhancement programmes.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders.
