IE Modeling and Automation Engineer - GQ Ops

About the role

Micron is hiring an Engineer, GQ Ops IE Modeling and Automation to support automation strategy, system enablement, IE modeling, planning tools and data governance for GQ Ops. The role contributes to transformation initiatives by developing and deploying automation solutions, enabling AMHS integration, improving scalable planning systems and supporting data-driven operations to reduce manual touchpoints and improve reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the GQ Ops automation transformation roadmap, survey and benchmark industry solutions, and develop equipment and process automation solutions such as laser marking, ALU, robotics, vision systems and workflow digitization.
• Partner with operations teams on automation requirements, ROI analysis, vendor technical specifications and FAT/SAT/PAC buyoffs, applying common standards across sites.
• Support AMHS integration, act as technical point of contact for lab automation and AMHS, and work with IT, Automation, Process, Planning and Operations to improve uptime and system performance.
• Develop, maintain and improve automated planning systems and IE models for capacity, throughput, cycle time and bottleneck analysis, and turn them into dashboards, reports and decision-support tools.
• Explore AI/ML or advanced analytics use cases to improve planning accuracy and decision-making.
• Support the MSH greenfield reliability lab by translating ramp needs into layout, process flow and automation-readiness requirements, and coordinate with GEL, Process Engineering, Planning, Facilities, Automation and vendors.
• Work as a technical member of the GQ Ops central team, plan and execute projects, communicate results and standardize best-known methods across sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or a related field.
• Experience in automation, industrial engineering, manufacturing systems, planning, capacity modeling, data analytics, process improvement or system deployment.
• Strong understanding of AMHS, equipment automation, capacity planning, throughput, cycle time, bottleneck analysis and productivity improvement.
• Ability to work across GQ Ops, IE, Planning, Process Engineering, Automation, IT, Facilities, vendors and global teams.

Required skills

• Data analysis or reporting tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, Power Platform or equivalent.
• Preferred: experience in semiconductor manufacturing, backend or reliability lab operations, robotics, AMHS, vision systems, auto-dispatching, and protocols such as SECS/GEM, E84, E87.
• Preferred: experience with ROI analysis, vendor specification review, FAT/SAT/PAC buyoff, and exposure to Industry 4.0, AI/ML analytics and low-code automation.
