Instrument Technician Assistant

About the role

The Instrument Technician Assistant provides sterile and reusable surgical instruments and equipment by demonstrating competence in all aspects of sterile processing: receiving, sorting, decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of sterile items to operation theatres, operating theatres, in-patient wards and procedural rooms.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, sort, decontaminate, inspect, pack, sterilize, store and distribute surgical items
• Load and operate washer-disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers and sterilizers
• Perform and evaluate sterilizer test indicators
• Inventory all sterile linen and surgical consumables supplies
• Issue sterile supplies to all operating rooms
• Clean the TSSU storage area and ensure daily cleaning of the decom area
• Demonstrate proper use and care of equipment, report defects and notify the in-charge of items needing repair or replacement
• Facilitate smooth running of activities within the TSSU and hand over essential information and critical events to colleagues in charge
• Participate in clinical and service quality activities as required and stay aware of current healthcare practices

Required profile

• ITE in Engineering, relevant technical credentials or WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare Support (Sterilisation Services)
• Preferably experience as an Instrument Technical Assistant or in CSSD/TSSU
• Good interpersonal and supervisory skills
• Good command of written English
