Lecturer - Big Data Analytics

About the role

The School of Informatics & IT is recruiting a Lecturer in Big Data Analytics. The role covers full-time and part-time teaching in data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data engineering and management, as well as foundational ICT modules.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver curriculum in emerging AI technologies, including Generative AI, Large Language Models, Agentic AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation and Responsible AI.
• Deliver mathematics modules (calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics) contextualised for IT and AI applications.
• Design, develop, review and maintain curriculum, course materials and assessments, and recommend improvements for student learning and employability.
• Develop students' project-based work, including e-learning and self-directed learning, and guide them in AI and analytics projects using real-world datasets.
• Coach and mentor students, and take part in school outreach programmes, committees, projects and events.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline.
• At least 7 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in data science, data engineering, data warehousing, data management, data analytics, machine learning, agentic AI or text analytics.
• Demonstrated competence and strong interest in teaching analytics, AI, machine learning, data science and related mathematical subjects.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with an interest in engaging teenagers and young adults.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and willingness to contribute to publicity and outreach initiatives.

Required skills

• Familiarity with analytics, AI and data platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, R, Python, SQL, KNIME, Alteryx, Snowflake and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure).
• Experience with machine learning frameworks and AI development tools, including Generative AI and Agentic AI.
