Legal Manager / Assistant Manager

About the role

Sony Group is looking for a Legal Manager / Assistant Manager to act as team lead for legal matters relating to Singapore-based functions. The role covers legal, compliance, privacy and AI governance matters for business and operational functions in Singapore and across the Asia Pacific region.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and counsel internal stakeholders on legal, compliance, privacy and AI governance matters for Sony's businesses in the Asia Pacific region
• Draft, vet and negotiate legal, commercial and corporate documents, and review rights and liabilities under existing agreements
• Support company secretary matters
• Conduct privacy impact assessments and promote and maintain a regional privacy management framework
• Assess compliance risks and support compliance activities, training, audits, reviews and internal investigations
• Lead and supervise junior team members in contract drafting, compliance and privacy reviews, AI assessments, audits, investigations, legal research and policy implementation
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, Sony legal colleagues in Tokyo and other countries, and external counsel

Required profile

• LLB (Hons) from NUS or another recognised university in a common Asia Pacific law jurisdiction
• Qualified lawyer with post-qualification corporate/commercial experience, preferably in-house or a mix of law firm and in-house
• Minimum 8 years of in-house legal, compliance and privacy advisory experience, preferably in electronics hardware, software, data and retail
• Good knowledge of commercial, corporate, consumer, privacy, compliance and technology laws in Singapore and/or other Asia Pacific jurisdictions
• Excellent command of written and spoken English

Required skills

• Data protection certifications such as CIPP or CIPM are advantageous
• Experience in AI governance is advantageous
• Leadership ability, strong communication skills and ability to work independently
