Line of Business Head, Engineering

About the role

The Line of Business Head, Engineering will lead Zurich's Engineering underwriting portfolio in Singapore, shaping strategy, driving profitable performance and acting as the senior referral point for complex underwriting decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the underwriting strategy for the Engineering line, setting performance targets and financial budgets.
• Manage selection, denial, acceptance and renewal of Engineering business within delegated authority, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards and regulations.
• Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, overseeing their development plans and building sustainable underwriting talent.
• Identify portfolio opportunities and risks using data, market insights and distribution dynamics, and implement action plans to improve performance.
• Drive governance, risk and process improvement initiatives, including the design of rating tools and the implementation of multi‑year transformation projects.
• Maintain and grow relationships with brokers, agents, customers and internal stakeholders to support business retention and acquisition.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in underwriting, insurance or a related field, with strong technical expertise in Engineering insurance.
• Extensive management experience, preferably leading underwriting teams or portfolios.
• Proven track record of managing portfolio performance, underwriting strategy, distribution relationships and governance.
• Experience working with brokers, agents, customers and senior internal stakeholders.
