Managing Counsel – Asia

About the role

This senior leadership position reports directly to the APAC General Counsel and is responsible for overseeing legal, ethics and compliance matters across Egis' Asia operations. The role can be based in Singapore, Hong Kong or Australia (Perth preferred) and works closely with Managing Directors, project teams and commercial stakeholders to balance risk management with business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the lead legal advisor for the Asia region, providing guidance on contracts, compliance and governance.
• Lead negotiation and review of major infrastructure and consultancy contracts across multiple jurisdictions.
• Advise senior leadership and project delivery teams on commercial and risk issues.
• Manage claims strategy, insurer engagement and professional indemnity matters.
• Drive legal process improvement, contract standardisation and legal literacy throughout the business.
• Manage and mentor the Legal, Ethics & Compliance team.
• Oversee external counsel relationships and control legal spend across the region.
• Participate in APAC and Group‑level risk review and governance committees.

Required profile

• 10+ years post‑qualification experience in professional services, engineering, infrastructure or consulting environments.
• Proven track record negotiating consultancy and project contracts across Asia, especially Southeast Asia.
• Strong understanding of professional indemnity, design liability and commercial risk management.
• Ability to deliver commercially pragmatic legal advice to technical and operational stakeholders.
• Experience working in complex, matrix or project‑based organisations.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and negotiation capabilities.
• Proactive, resilient and solutions‑focused mindset.
• Leadership experience with a history of mentoring or managing legal professionals.
