Mechanical Engineer – Debug Project

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Debug Project, a Google‑backed initiative developing sterile‑mosquito technology to combat mosquito‑borne diseases. You will work in a small, interdisciplinary team of biologists, software engineers and automation experts, driving the research, design and deployment of novel electromechanical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build automated electromechanical systems using servo, pneumatic, sensor and drive components.
• Own the full product life‑cycle from requirement definition and prototype validation to production launch.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison for science, software and operations teams, solving complex engineering challenges.
• Collaborate with end‑users to iterate designs, test prototypes and verify compliance with specifications.
• Investigate and resolve performance issues in production equipment.
• Assess existing equipment and processes, and develop multi‑year improvement road‑maps.
• Perform engineering calculations and generate layouts using CAD, FMEA and DFA tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• At least 3 years of experience designing plastic or metal parts, assemblies, PCBs or flex circuits.
• At least 3 years of hands‑on experience with CAD tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo or SolidWorks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
