Mechanical Engineer, Robotics & Autonomous Food Systems

About the role

Hit Refresh is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and industrialise the next generation of autonomous food‑service robots. You will work hands‑on across mechanical design, mechatronics, and product development to create robust, serviceable systems that operate in refrigerated, food‑safe environments.

Key responsibilities

• Own mechanical subsystems from concept through CAD, prototyping, testing, field validation and production release.
• Design robotic mechanisms for ingredient dispensing, movement, access, loading, collection and machine interaction.
• Develop motion assemblies involving actuators, sensors, motors, guides, linkages, doors, cartridges and mechanical interfaces.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, production drawings and engineering documentation.
• Collaborate with software, electrical and controls engineers to integrate mechanical systems with sensors and embedded control.
• Build, assemble, test and iterate prototypes in the workshop.
• Diagnose mechanical issues on deployed machines and translate field learnings into design improvements.
• Select materials, fasteners, bearings, motors, actuators, seals and other components.
• Work with suppliers on fabrication, machining, sheet‑metal, plastics, assembly and production methods.
• Support transition from pilot builds to repeatable manufacturing and maintain BOMs, drawings and revision records.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Product Design Engineering or a related field.
• Strong mechanical design fundamentals.
• Experience designing real mechanisms, motion systems or electromechanical products.

Required skills

• 3D CAD modeling and assembly creation.
• Knowledge of actuators, sensors, motors, guides, linkages and mechanical interfaces.
• Material, fastener, bearing and seal selection.
