Platform Engineer (NGPO Strategy – Ecosystems Development)

About the role

The Next Generation Programme Office (NGPO) Strategy branch is looking for motivated platform engineers with a collaborative, proactive attitude and a passion for continuous learning. You will join a team focused on designing, implementing and maintaining either cloud infrastructure and platform services or on-premises infrastructure and platform services for the Next Generation Air Navigation System (ANS), depending on the deployment requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, implement and maintain platform solutions for safety-critical applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards for reliability, availability and performance in cloud or on-premises environments.
• Manage cloud-native technologies and services (AWS, Azure) or on-premises infrastructure (virtualisation, bare metal servers, traditional networking).
• Implement infrastructure automation with Infrastructure as Code tools and configuration management systems.
• Design and manage containerised environments using container orchestration platforms.
• Collaborate with software developers, architects and other stakeholders; may also perform Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) functions.
• Implement monitoring, logging and alerting, and apply security best practices and controls.
• Maintain data pipeline, streaming and analytics workloads as a secondary responsibility.
• Perform deployment, integration testing and validation in production, and troubleshoot performance and reliability issues.
• Maintain documentation for infrastructure, processes and procedures.

Required profile

• Training in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or equivalent.
• Platform engineering and infrastructure management experience in cloud or on-premises environments.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architectures and microservices, or traditional infrastructure and distributed systems design.
• Desired: SRE background, disaster recovery and business continuity experience, high-availability system design, GCC environments, data platform and streaming systems, cost optimisation, and aviation-related compliance frameworks.

Required skills

• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, OpenShift)
• Package management (Helm, Kustomize) and monitoring stacks (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, Datadog)
• For cloud focus: AWS, Azure; for on-premises: VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, KVM, Ansible, Puppet, Chef
• CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell, Go)
• Networking concepts (VPCs, VLANs, load balancers, DNS, service mesh) and cybersecurity basics

Successful candidates are offered a 3-year contract initially, with possible permanent tenure or renewal.
