Job description
About the role
Micron is hiring a Principal Engineer for its advanced NAND cell film process development team. The role leads the development, integration and scaling of thin-film processes for advanced NAND devices, drives technology transfer to high-volume manufacturing, and sets the technical direction for the function.
Key responsibilities
- Define and implement the technical strategy for cell film process development, aligned to business and technology objectives, and identify emerging trends, risks and opportunities.
- Lead multi-functional development, integration and scaling of thin-film processes, ensuring manufacturability, scalability and readiness for integration.
- Drive technology transfer and ramp-up from R&D to high-volume manufacturing.
- Solve complex technical problems, including root cause analysis and mitigation of process and device failures.
- Lead cost reduction, yield improvement and reliability enhancement programs through process and material improvements.
- Mentor senior engineers, represent the function in technical forums and strategic collaborations, and benchmark against industry standards.
- Use AI-assisted tools responsibly to improve efficiency, quality and effectiveness, and share AI-enabled improvements within the team.
Required profile
- PhD with at least 5 years, or Master's with at least 7 years, or Bachelor's with at least 10 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
- Experience in thin-film R&D for microelectronic devices, with a proven track record of leading complex technology development.
- Structured problem-solving, learning agility, clear communication and cross-functional collaboration.
- Preferred: contributions to technology benchmarking, roadmap inputs and technical documentation or IP generation.
Required skills
- Deep hands-on expertise in ALD/CVD thin-film processes for 3D NAND cell applications, including process development, optimization and sustainment in manufacturing.
- Understanding of process-device interactions, scaling challenges and reliability, and ability to diagnose film-related yield issues.
- Proven ability to drive materials, chemistry and process improvements through structured experimentation.
- Proficiency in DOE, SPC and data analytics.
- Ability to apply baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy to research, analysis and problem solving.
