Project Officer – Single-Photon Imaging System

About the role

The Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Project Officer to advance single‑photon imaging and LiDAR platforms built around superconducting nanowire single‑photon detectors (SNSPDs). You will work in a cutting‑edge laboratory, integrating hardware, developing control software, and supporting experimental measurements.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate and test SNSPD‑based imaging and LiDAR setups, including optics, electronics, and timing systems.
• Develop and modify FPGA, microcontroller, and PC‑based data‑acquisition routines.
• Implement low‑noise signal acquisition, synchronization, time‑tagging, and real‑time processing pipelines.
• Assist senior researchers with device assembly, detector benchmarking, and basic fabrication or packaging tasks.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure safety compliance, and document experimental procedures.

Required profile

• Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience with optical and electronic laboratory setups.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams.

Required skills

• Python and Matlab for data analysis and automation.
• FPGA programming and microcontroller development.
• ADC/DAC interfacing, SPI/CMOS, digital I/O.
• PCB testing, low‑noise shielding, and grounding techniques.
• Optical alignment, laser operation, fiber‑optic handling, and LiDAR subsystem integration.
