Research Assistant – Natural Hazards

About the role

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University seeks a motivated Research Assistant to support its Natural Hazards programme. Working under the supervision of Susanna Jenkins, you will contribute to the five‑year InVEST project, which aims to integrate volcano and earthquake science across Southeast Asia.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and analyse data related to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and climate‑related hazards.
• Assist the research team in simulating natural‑hazard scenarios and critically evaluating model outcomes.
• Prepare technical reports and draft manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.

Required profile

• BSc in geography, computer science, physics, earth or environmental science or a related field.
• Strong quantitative mindset with an interest in natural hazards and their societal impacts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Required skills

• Experience with coding (any language) preferred.
• Proficiency in GIS tools.
