Research Assistant – Semiconductor & Materials Engineering

About the role
Temasek Laboratories @ NTU is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to support cutting‑edge semiconductor, materials and electrical engineering projects. The role involves hands‑on work in a high‑vacuum laboratory environment, contributing to the development of strategic defence technologies for Singapore.
Key responsibilities
- Operate CVD and high‑vacuum deposition systems under senior researcher supervision.
- Prepare tools, handle samples, and monitor processes during experiments.
- Perform routine material and device characterisation using optical microscopy, AFM, XRD and basic electrical measurements.
- Collect, log, and conduct preliminary analysis of experimental data; prepare reports.
- Maintain experimental records, data repositories, and laboratory safety documentation.
- Support laboratory operations including inventory control, consumables management, safety checks and basic equipment upkeep.
- Assist with procurement, vendor coordination and documentation.
- Participate in routine and preventive maintenance of CVD equipment and related systems.
- Help with wafer processing activities such as bonding, etching, cleaning and sample preparation.
Required profile
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in physics, materials science or electrical & electronic engineering.
- Basic exposure to laboratory‑based research or semiconductor processing through coursework, projects or internships.
- Willingness to operate epitaxial growth and characterisation tools (e.g., MOCVD/MBE) under supervision.
- Strong adherence to SOPs, accurate record‑keeping and safety practices.
- Good organisational, time‑management and written communication skills.
- Proactive attitude with a desire to learn new techniques.
