Research Associate – Biomass Waste Pretreatment

About the role

The Energy Research Institute at NTU seeks a Research Associate to advance biomass waste pretreatment. The role involves optimizing existing processes, developing new pretreatment methods, and performing detailed characterisation of raw biomass, products, and by‑products.

Key responsibilities

• Characterise raw biomass, including major components and contaminants.
• Optimise current pretreatment processes to maximise product yield.
• Develop new pretreatment processes for higher yields.
• Characterise products and by‑products and devise methods to remove contaminants.
• Prepare monthly reports and attend meetings with ExxonMobil managers.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience with biomass.
• Familiarity with organic and inorganic material characterisation.
• Proficiency in hydrothermal reactions and common chemical analysis tools.
• Strong reporting and communication skills; entry‑level candidates are welcome.
• Relevant publications are a plus.
