Research Associate – Optical Fiber Fabrication

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Associate/Fellow to support cutting‑edge optical fiber fabrication projects. You will work closely with the reporting officer on high‑power laser research, designing and producing specialty fibers such as laser gain and hollow‑core fibers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and fabricate specialty optical fibers in the NTU fiber‑fabrication facility.
• Characterise drawn fibers, maintain an up‑to‑date catalogue, and document performance data.
• Maintain and troubleshoot fabrication equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Manage procurement of assets and consumables required for the laboratory.
• Provide ad‑hoc administrative support for research activities as needed.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in optical fiber fabrication.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team.
