Research Associate – Plasma Physics for Fusion Energy

About the role

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Associate to investigate electromagnetic turbulence in tokamak boundary plasmas. The role involves theoretical and numerical work within a three‑dimensional, flux‑driven, nonlinear two‑fluid simulation framework.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct theoretical and numerical studies of electromagnetic turbulence and transport in tokamak edge and scrape‑off layer plasmas.
• Develop, test, and extend physical models and numerical capabilities in a 3‑D two‑fluid simulation code.
• Run linear and nonlinear simulations on high‑performance computing systems and validate results against analytical predictions and benchmark cases.
• Analyse turbulent fluctuations, transport, and energy transfer using dedicated diagnostics.
• Contribute to code documentation, scientific reports, publications, and research presentations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in physics or a closely related discipline.
• Strong foundation in theoretical physics, especially electromagnetism and fluid dynamics, with basic knowledge of plasma physics.
• Experience with scientific programming and numerical methods for solving differential equations.
• Ability to analyse simulation data and interpret results using physical principles.
• Capability to work effectively in an international, collaborative environment.
