Research Associate – Semiconductor & Materials Engineering

About the role

Temasek Laboratories @ NTU is seeking a motivated Research Associate to advance semiconductor and materials research supporting Singapore's defence and security technologies. You will work in a high‑vacuum laboratory environment, developing and optimising growth processes for semiconductor wafers.

Key responsibilities

• Operate Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) and high‑vacuum systems for semiconductor growth.
• Develop and optimise growth processes based on experimental and characterisation results.
• Perform wafer characterisation using optical microscopy, AFM, C‑V, Hall effect measurements and X‑ray diffraction (XRD).
• Plan, execute and troubleshoot experiments and equipment issues.
• Carry out routine and preventive maintenance of laboratory tools.
• Manage laboratory procurement, vendor relationships and consumables.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, SOPs and institutional requirements.
• Prepare technical reports and contribute to proposals and publications.
• Provide technical guidance to research assistants and junior staff.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related field (or a bachelor’s degree with relevant experience).
• Experience with CVD systems is advantageous; academic or project experience is welcomed.
• Familiarity with materials characterisation techniques such as AFM, XRD, C‑V and Hall measurements.
• Ability to plan, execute and analyse experiments and a willingness to learn process development.
• Basic understanding of laboratory safety practices and safe handling of chemicals and gases.
• Strong technical writing, documentation and communication skills.
