Research Engineer – Creative Technologist & Design

About the role

The NHB‑SIT Joint Lab for Digital Heritage is looking for a proactive Creative Technologist to develop web‑based tools, prototypes and digital experiences that support heritage research and public engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain user‑friendly web applications and interactive prototypes for digital heritage projects, including front‑end and basic back‑end work.
• Integrate APIs, handle data storage, and manage deployment workflows using cloud platforms such as Firebase, Supabase or Airtable.
• Apply design thinking and user‑centred methods to conduct stakeholder interviews, journey mapping, usability testing and synthesize insights.
• Create low‑ to high‑fidelity wireframes, prototypes and interaction flows using tools like Figma, Miro or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Document code, design decisions and research findings to support knowledge sharing and project continuity.

Required profile

• Degree in data science, AI, database development or a related field with a focus on human‑centred design, UX/UI or front‑end development.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively across technology, design and research teams.
• Interest in digital heritage, cultural technologies, museums or public engagement.

Required skills

• HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Front‑end frameworks such as React or Vue.js
• Basic back‑end development with Node.js or Python
• Version control with Git
• Experience with cloud or database services (Firebase, Supabase, Airtable, Google Sheets APIs, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Prototyping and design tools (Figma, Miro, Adobe Creative Suite)
