Research Engineer I - Green AI (AI / Data Science / EE)

About the role

The Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL), supported by the Singapore RIE2025 Fund, develops green digital technologies for global sustainability. It is seeking a Research Engineer to build next-generation Green AI technologies that improve the efficiency, sustainability and scalability of AI systems. The role sits at the intersection of AI research, software engineering and sustainability, working with multidisciplinary teams across academia and industry.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design, development and implementation of novel machine learning and large language model (LLM) algorithms for Green AI applications.
• Support research on efficient AI techniques, including model optimization, parameter-efficient fine-tuning, self-training, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering and efficient inference.
• Conduct experiments, benchmark algorithms and analyse performance using rigorous scientific methods.
• Contribute to publications in leading AI conferences and journals.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn research outcomes into deployable technologies.
• Stay up to date with developments in Green AI, foundation models, code intelligence and AI systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning and large language models.
• Experience with large-scale datasets and distributed model training.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and good written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
