Research Engineer I – Green AI & Large Language Models

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Research Engineer to join the Alibaba‑NTU Global e‑Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL) at Nanyang Technological University. The role focuses on developing Green AI technologies that make large language models and other AI systems more efficient, sustainable and scalable.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement novel machine‑learning and large‑language‑model algorithms for Green AI applications.
• Research and prototype efficient AI techniques such as model optimisation, parameter‑efficient fine‑tuning, self‑training, retrieval‑augmented generation, prompt engineering and efficient inference.
• Run experiments, benchmark algorithms and analyse performance using rigorous scientific methods.
• Contribute to publications in top AI conferences and journals.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional academic and industry teams to turn research outcomes into deployable technologies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning and large language models.
• Experience handling large‑scale datasets and distributed model training.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
