Research Engineer II – Digital Solutions for Energy

About the role

The Energy Centre of Innovation (ECOI) at NTU is seeking a Research Engineer II to drive digitalisation of sustainability projects. You will work closely with clients, partners and internal teams to deliver AI‑powered imaging solutions for photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise data pipelines that process electroluminescence (EL) images.
• Develop algorithms for image correction, stitching and exposure alignment to generate composite images.
• Build and train advanced machine learning models to automatically detect PV defects such as hotspots and micro‑cracks.
• Prepare data, build, test, validate and deploy AI models ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Integrate processed data into the software platform for continuous model improvement.
• Analyse model performance across diverse climate conditions and iterate for higher accuracy.
• Collaborate with project managers and hardware teams to align imaging outputs with AI processing requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Management or a related field.
• Minimum 3 + years of industry experience delivering complex technology projects.
• Proven experience in technology, robotics or renewable energy sectors.
• Strong familiarity with agile project management methodologies.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Experience with risk assessment and quality control in tech‑driven environments is a plus.
