Job description
About the role
The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), a pan-university research institute founded in 2010 focused on systems-level research for tropical megacities, is hiring a software engineer for its Future Mobility Solutions research program. The successful candidate will develop, test and fine-tune software for self-driving vehicles, from utility vehicles such as buggies and road sweepers to public road vehicles, contributing to autonomous driving technologies and robotics.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, test and fine-tune software for autonomous robots and vehicles across different platforms, working on C++ and Python code in Linux systems
- Process and analyse sensor data, including LIDAR and camera inputs, for robotics and automation applications
- Conduct outdoor vehicle trials to validate perception and navigation algorithms and self-driving systems
- Collaborate with the team to improve and optimise autonomous vehicle performance for real-world conditions
- Participate in vehicle data collection and help refine software to meet project deliverables
- Implement object recognition and tracking models such as YOLO, integrating them into the software stack to improve path planning, navigation, decision-making and obstacle avoidance
- Support assessment methodologies for AV safety, and prepare technical reports, white papers and presentations
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Automation or a related field
- Background in robotics and automation
- Experience with outdoor testing, data collection and validation of perception and navigation algorithms
Required skills
- Proficiency in C++, Python and Linux systems
- Familiarity with ROS or ROS2 environments
- Understanding of LIDAR and camera sensor data processing, and of INS (GNSS-IMU), RADAR and ultrasonic sensors
- Beneficial: experience with open-source platforms such as Autoware or Apollo, and with computer vision and YOLO-based object detection
