Research Fellow - Air Traffic Management Algorithms

About the role

The Air Traffic Management Research Institute (ATMRI) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, is supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and aims to support research and innovation in air traffic management through practical, data-driven solutions for complex aviation systems. It is looking for a Research Fellow to carry out research on air traffic management (ATM) algorithms and data-driven methods, developing intelligent methods and operation-support tools for ATM applications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on methods and approaches supporting air traffic management studies and applications.
• Develop, test and evaluate analytical models, algorithms and tools using operational and simulated data.
• Support research on airspace and air traffic operations under current and future ATM concepts.
• Work with researchers and engineers to develop prototype solutions and decision-support tools.
• Analyse results and assess the performance and applicability of methods in realistic operational scenarios.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers and project deliverables, and take part in project meetings and reviews.
• Contribute to research proposals, technical documentation and other project activities as required.

Required profile

• PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Transport, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or another related field.
• At least three years of relevant research experience in air traffic management or related technical research roles.
• Familiarity with research on air traffic management systems, airspace operations or air traffic operations.
• Good written and oral communication skills, able to prepare technical reports and academic publications.
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work independently and collaboratively, meet deadlines and manage time and organisation effectively.

• Programming for research and data analysis, such as Python or similar languages.

• General research skills, including problem-solving and analytical thinking.
