Research Fellow – High-Energy Ultrafast Optics

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Fellow to lead a project developing a high‑average‑power, high‑peak‑power mid‑infrared light source. The successful candidate will design, build, and optimise a compact femtosecond laser system using gas‑filled hollow‑core fibers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and assemble a compact laser system capable of generating high‑average‑power and high‑peak‑power femtosecond pulses in the mid‑infrared.
• Design and fabricate anti‑resonant hollow‑core fibers in collaboration with team fabricators.
• Prepare progress reports for the funding agency.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot laser‑related issues.
• Manage procurement of components, consumables, and specialised equipment.
• Provide ad‑hoc administrative support as required.

Required profile

• PhD in Physics, Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Hands‑on experience in experimental ultrafast or mid‑infrared optics.
• Proven ability to lead a research project under strict timelines with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
