Research Fellow (Human Factors)

About the role

The Air Traffic Management Research Institute (ATMRI) at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Fellow to advance human‑factors and cognitive‑systems research for air traffic management. You will focus on operator cognitive load, situational awareness, and decision‑support interfaces for air traffic controllers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and evaluate decision‑support tools and operator‑facing interfaces using operational and simulated data.
• Conduct human‑in‑the‑loop experiments employing eye‑tracking, physiological sensing, and uncertainty visualization.
• Analyse user‑study results to assess performance and usability in realistic ATM scenarios.
• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to prototype solutions and evaluation frameworks.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers, and project deliverables; present findings at conferences and journals.
• Contribute to research proposals and related documentation.

Required profile

• PhD in Human‑Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Air Traffic Management, Transport, or a related discipline.
• Minimum one year of research experience in human factors, cognitive systems, or safety‑critical domains such as aviation.
• Familiarity with cognitive load assessment, decision‑support interfaces, or human‑in‑the‑loop systems.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for technical reporting and academic publishing.
