Research Fellow (In Vivo Neural Tissue Engineering)

About the role

NTU invites applications for a Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary research team led by Dr. Sing Yian Chew. The successful candidate will contribute to an ongoing programme on neural tissue engineering, in vivo spinal cord injury (SCI) models and regenerative biomaterials.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct in vivo experiments using rat SCI models
• Perform microsurgical procedures, cell and scaffold implantation, and animal behavioural and functional evaluations
• Carry out mechanistic analyses such as tract tracing, immunofluorescent and histochemical staining, and confocal imaging
• Analyse data, interpret results and prepare manuscripts for publication
• Supervise and train junior researchers and contribute to laboratory management
• Take part in multidisciplinary collaborations within and beyond NTU

Required profile

• Ph.D. and/or M.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience or a related discipline
• Published and demonstrated expertise handling rodents and functional and behavioural assessments
• Published expertise in animal surgery, preferably SCI microsurgery in rodents
• Strong written and oral communication skills; highly motivated, well organised and able to work independently and in teams

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with tract tracing, tissue sectioning, immunofluorescence, histology and confocal microscopy
• Experience with western blotting and qRT-PCR is advantageous
