Research Fellow - Multi-UAV Path Planning

About the role

The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is recruiting a Research Fellow for a project on Multi-UAV Path Planning. It is a full-time appointment funded for about one year, depending on the hiring date. The selected candidate joins a group with state-of-the-art facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop advanced path planning, search and exploration algorithms for multi-UAV systems in unknown and complex 3D environments.
• Design efficient obstacle avoidance strategies to ensure collision-free navigation in dense settings.
• Implement and validate algorithms in virtual and real-world scenarios to optimise performance indoors and outdoors.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on path planning, multi-robot systems or autonomous navigation.
• Strong research background in path planning, motion planning and multi-robot coordination in complex environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English for research work.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and C++, with extensive experience in ROS/ROS2 for robotic development.
• Familiarity with path planning algorithms such as RRT, A* and optimisation-based methods.
• Hands-on experience with simulation environments such as Gazebo and Unity3D.
• Preferred: experience with deep learning and reinforcement learning for robotic decision making, and familiarity with UAV kinematics and dynamics.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
