Research Fellow – Multimodal Wireless Perception
SINGAPORE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN · Singapore
Job description
About the role
The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) seeks a Research Fellow to lead investigations in multimodal wireless perception for physical AI. The role focuses on integrating wireless sensing, complementary sensor data, and artificial intelligence to enable environment understanding and autonomous decision‑making.
Key responsibilities
- Develop multimodal perception algorithms that fuse wireless measurements with other sensor information for localization, tracking and environment understanding.
- Investigate integrated sensing‑and‑communications techniques and distributed sensing methods for physical AI applications.
- Design efficient edge‑AI inference methods that balance perception accuracy, latency, communication overhead and energy consumption.
- Formulate optimization and learning algorithms for joint allocation of sensing, communication and computing resources.
- Implement and evaluate methods through simulations, relevant datasets and prototype development where appropriate.
- Prepare publications for leading journals and conferences, and produce technical reports and project deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with the principal investigator, support student research and contribute to research proposals.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
- Strong research background in wireless communications, integrated sensing‑and‑communications, edge AI or mobile edge computing.
- Demonstrated experience in mathematical modelling, numerical optimisation, machine learning or deep learning.
- Proficiency in Python or MATLAB and relevant simulation or machine‑learning frameworks.
- Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals or conferences.
- Experience in multimodal learning, sensor fusion, wireless sensing or distributed perception.
- Experience in communication‑computation co‑design, distributed AI inference or resource allocation for intelligent wireless systems.
- Experience developing research prototypes or validating algorithms with realistic datasets or experimental measurements.
