Research Fellow – X‑ray Microscopy

About the role

The School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to lead X‑ray microscopy projects, focusing on the development of new photopolymers and biomaterials. The role involves operating advanced nano‑computed tomography (nano‑CT) equipment to generate high‑resolution 3D images for material characterization.

Key responsibilities

• Operate nano‑CT systems and prepare, mount, and align samples for scanning.
• Optimize scan parameters (voltage, current, exposure time, resolution) to meet image quality requirements.
• Perform system calibrations, routine checks, and troubleshoot operational issues.
• Reconstruct CT datasets using specialised software and conduct image processing, segmentation, and quantitative analysis.
• Extract measurements such as porosity, defects, and internal structures, and compile technical reports with figures and summaries.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Imaging Science or a related technical field.
• Basic understanding of X‑ray imaging, tomography, or materials characterization.
• Strong attention to detail and effective data‑management skills.

Required skills

• Operation of nano‑computed tomography (nano‑CT) equipment.
• Experience with CT reconstruction and analysis software (e.g., Dragonfly, Avizo, VGStudio MAX).
• Proficiency in scientific data analysis and image‑processing tools.
