Research Scientist (1-year contract)

About the role

The School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS) seeks a Research Scientist on a one‑year contract to lead independent research projects at the intersection of Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence, and related domains.

Key responsibilities

• Define and develop original research directions, including problem formulation, methodology, and empirical validation.
• Publish findings in top‑tier journals and conferences and present results to academic and industry audiences.
• Engage with policy makers and industry partners to translate research into practice.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers involved in the projects.
• Support grant management, project coordination, and other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• PhD (completed by start date) in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Transportation, Logistics, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in optimization (e.g., integer/combinatorial, stochastic/robust, network models, queueing, simulation‑based).
• Strong background in machine learning (representation learning, time‑series, probabilistic modeling, learning under distribution shift).
• Proven research track record with publications and clear scientific writing.
• Solid programming skills and ability to work independently while collaborating effectively.
