Research Scientist (Crop Health)

About the role

The Agriculture Research and Innovation Centre is recruiting a Research Scientist (Crop Health) to manage the R&D and industry engagement activities of the Crop Health Research Programme. The role leads research and consultancy projects in crop science and advanced agriculture technologies, and works with industry partners, local and international collaborators, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the R&D and industry engagement activities of the Crop Health Research Programme.
• Lead research and consultancy projects in crop science and advanced agriculture technologies.
• Write project proposals and progress reports and present to funding agencies for grant-funded and consultancy projects.
• Reach out to industry partners and provide consultancy services through research projects.
• Plan, execute and follow through research experiments leading to project deliverables and technology development.
• Conduct literature searches, carry out research and publish articles in internationally reputed journals and conferences.
• Provide research support and supervise students and/or technical staff.
• Collaborate with local and international partners on research progress.
• Support school-wide and university-wide technology events, including planning and execution, and assist with outreach such as lab visits, technology presentations and training workshops.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in Plant Science, Life Science, Biotechnology or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in plant science or agriculture research, with specialization in plant pathology, Integrated Pest Management, plant physiology or controlled agriculture.
• Prior experience growing and maintaining plants in hydroponics or substrate for urban agriculture or commercial farming is favourable.
• Experience leading or co-leading research or consultancy projects for industry is advantageous.
• Good communication, interpersonal and multi-tasking skills, with strong documentation and laboratory techniques.
• Proficiency in IT skills.

Successful candidates will be employed on a contract basis.
