Senior Analyst - Market Analysis (6-Month Contract/Secondment)

About the role

Rio Tinto is looking for a Senior Analyst to join its Market Analysis team in Singapore, within the Commercial Function. The role is a six-month contract/secondment with a strong project focus, reporting to the Senior Manager, Procurement, Marine & Logistics Market Analysis. You will deliver improvements to freight market analytical capability, including supply-demand modelling, forecasting tools and recurring market intelligence reports, supporting commercial decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and enhancement of dry bulk freight supply and demand models, linking commodity trade flows, cargo volumes, tonne-mile demand, vessel supply and fleet productivity to freight rates.
• Build a forward-looking freight demand framework and enhance vessel supply and capacity models (fleet growth, newbuilds, scrapping, speeds, congestion, ballast).
• Develop short- and medium-term freight market outlooks and identify emerging imbalances, inflection points and risks.
• Produce regular freight market reports and executive briefings.
• Partner with commercial, shipping, commodity and analytical teams to turn analysis into actionable insights.
• Document models and methods clearly and set up handover processes so tools remain usable after the assignment.

Required profile

• University degree in a technical or commercial discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in dry bulk shipping, freight, commodity research, market intelligence or related analytics.
• Experience building or maintaining market models and forecasts.
• Attention to detail, curiosity, good communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint, with modelling and data analysis experience.
• Experience using AI tools and coding to automate data collection, processing and reporting.
