Senior Buyer

About the role

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Senior Buyer (Buyer III) to ensure reliable, cost‑effective supply‑chain operations that support our mission of making the world healthier, cleaner and safer. You will manage strategic supplier relationships, drive procurement initiatives and collaborate across functions to optimise material availability and inventory levels.

Key responsibilities

• Own raw‑material availability, inventory planning, back‑order management and on‑time delivery (OTD) for manufacturing operations.
• Generate and execute purchase orders, resolve level‑1 issues, and adjust material schedules based on MRP requirements.
• Analyse inventory turns, material obsolescence and excess exposure, and report supply‑chain metrics regularly.
• Coordinate inter‑departmental activities with quality, engineering, logistics and customer service to ensure compliance with SOX, ISO, FDA and other regulatory standards.
• Lead internal and external audits, maintain supplier KPIs and drive continuous‑improvement projects, including NPI and cost‑saving initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree in Materials Management or equivalent (or extensive experience for non‑degree holders).
• Minimum 8 years of buying and planning experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities with the capacity to manage multiple projects.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with cross‑functional teams and senior management.

Required skills

• JDE E1 (ERP/MRP) – super‑user level.
• SAP or comparable ERP system.
• Advanced Excel and Power Bi for data analysis and reporting.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820, etc.).
