Senior Design Engineer – Outdoor Furniture

About the role

Janus et Cie, a luxury outdoor furniture brand, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to bridge industrial design and mechanical engineering. You will translate design concepts into production‑ready solutions while maintaining aesthetics, quality, and cost targets.

Key responsibilities

• Convert industrial design concepts into engineered CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings, defining tolerances, fits, and construction methods for materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, teak, and composites.
• Perform FEA simulations to assess static loads, fatigue, and deformation, validating results against physical testing and relevant standards (BIFMA, BSEN).
• Lead prototype development, testing cycles, and first‑article evaluations, resolving technical issues and optimizing designs for manufacturability, cost, and scalability.
• Collaborate with global suppliers on feasibility, tooling, and production, reviewing factory submissions and supporting pilot runs.
• Partner with Industrial Design, Product Management, QA, and Supply Chain throughout the product lifecycle, maintaining accurate BOMs, drawings, and ECOs within the PLM system.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 4–8 years of product development experience, preferably in furniture or design‑led products.
• Strong analytical problem‑solving skills with a simulation‑driven decision‑making approach.
• Fluent in English and proficient in Mandarin, Malay, or Tamil.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines while communicating effectively with cross‑functional teams and vendors.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD software such as Rhino3D or SolidWorks.
• Experience with FEA tools like Simscale, SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or Abaqus.
• Deep understanding of materials, structural analysis, and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
